Are You an Exhibitionist or a Voyeur?

I'm an exhibitionist, my husband is a voyeur -- the marriage works well.

No, I'm not being perverse -- I'm talking about blog personalities. I love to pour my heart out, rant and rave, and chatter my head off on my blog. I love getting comments and talking to people. When I read other blogs, which is not too often, I almost always comment and I always read the comments others have left. I love the dialogue potential.

My husband reads blogs but he doesn't write one and he doesn't comment. Also, I don't think he reads the comments. He'll tell me he read something on my blog and I'll always say, "oh, did you see so-and-so's comment?" He never does. I don't know if this is a Mars/Venus thing or if its a personality thing.

I talk, he listens -- it works for us. As far as I know.

Maybe there are some who are have achieved equilibrium -- I know lots of bloggers who have comments galore and who reference other blogs frequently -- maybe they are in blog nirvana.

One of the reasons I haven't been blogging as frequently as I used to, is that I hang out on homeschooling listservs where there is more dialogue. I don't know if I had realized this before, but I realize it now, it feeds my need for dialogue.

Talk to me, please.

I write several blogs and occasionally comment but mostly lurk. What does that make me?

Here I am delurking just long enough to explain that I enjoy reading your blog -- I find common ground on some spiritual matters as well as in your unschooling essays. We plan to unschool ourselves but as our oldest is only two, I don't have much to say, except for just explaining the basics of unschooling to critical relatives. Right now I'm just listening to you and others and taking in ideas. Later, I'll feel more comfortable speaking up. But please do keep writing!

Hi Jen! Thank you so much for your comment -- it means a lot to me and is very encouraging. As much as I love this journey I'm on, it can be lonely. I've met wonderful people and I adore my friends, but little ones can be very demanding. Right now, my 3 year-old wants to be held, which is fine, but she'll tell me not to talk if I try to talk to my friends. When I tell her I must be allowed to speak, she'll usually whine through it. Frustrating!

I love the opportunity for dialogue that the blog forum affords, too. And it's so nice to be able to "talk" to other adults without running around hither and yon like a wild thing, so the housework still gets done (sorta), and the general peace and tranquility are preserved.

The kids' unhappiness with sharing your attention gets less as they get older and more independent themselves. At least it did in our house. Mine are 8 and 9 now, and I can make it through an entire phone conversation without interruption at least once a week! (Especially if I lock myself in the bedroom with the cordless!)

Hello all and thanks! MCM, I am trying to appreciate the kids' devotion to me right now because I know it won't last, but I am definitely feeling like a hostage these days. CG, I like your idea of structure and I look forward to being able to do more reading, right now, the 3 year-old is just too contrarian. This too shall pass.

Mike -- so glad to hear from you. I've got to get over to Clanlally and see what you've been up to!

On the WWW I'm a chatty extrovert. In real life I'm the introvert. Wonder what that means.

Marjorie, I didn't know you were back in the blogging world; I'm so glad you are. If you never come back to our Bible study, you still have a star in your crown: you brought David and me together. It's been a very creative relationship.

Love to you and Tom-- and the kiddies.

Hi there, Larry and David. I didn't mean to leave the Bible study and I haven't really left. I just get really mind-boggled when I visit and I guess my interest in the Bible in on hiatus. But I never know when the Spirit will move me, which is why I haven't left it! I really appreciate your patience with me.
